Central Middlesex Hospital
The Central Middlesex Hospital is located in Brent and replaces facilities some of which date back nearly a century. The development of a new day care building (ACAD) started the overall re-development and the new Brent Emergency Care and Diagnostic Centre (BECaD) completed the hospital and in so doing achieved the Trust's vision of a new model of care. The PFI procurement route was the chosen solution for the BECaD under which the consortium design, build, finance and manage the life cycle and hard FM of the building for a 30 year period. The ICT and soft FM are operated by the Trust.
The strength and professionalism of the Trust project team saw them win the PPP Award for the “Best Public Sector Project Team” in 2004. The excellent working relationships between all parties helped achieve the shortest known PFI bid process; 19 months from OJEU to Financial Close.
The fully integrated design, build and operate approach provided by Bouygues UK and their sister company Ecovert FM ensured a whole life approach was taken to the project design and development.
In addition, we made sure to involve all stakeholders, including the local community, to allow their aspirations to be channelled into the brief and design, through regular consultation and health impact assessments.
Throughout the construction of the new BECaD) the existing hospital had to remain fully operational, including the new ACAD day care hospital which opened in 1999.
Disruption to existing services, deliveries and patient/visitor access was a major consideration and necessitated close coordination with the Trust and meticulous planning and phasing of all construction activities.
Bouygues UK was awarded a CABE “Festive Five” award in 2005 for BECaD.
