Bouygues UK Invites Local Residents to Share Disposal Skips

29 November 2011

Bouygues UK extended a helping hand to the local community this month by inviting the neighbours of Gordonbrock Primary School in Lewisham to make use of some temporary disposal skips set up on the outskirts of the school’s construction area.

The site team invited the local residents to dispose of all manner of unwanted items including garden waste, old furniture and general rubbish over the course of a day with members of the site team at hand to assist if required.  Approximately 20 people made use of the skips and the equivalent of four skip loads was accumulated in total.

The reason for the initiative was to demonstrate Bouygues UK’s commitment to the communities in which the company operates and the feedback received was excellent, with the site team receiving a positive response from those residents involved.

Thomas Vandecasteele, Bouygues UK Production Manager for Lewisham Primary, said:

“Engaging constructively with the communities in which we work is such an important part of our role and if we can make our neighbours’ lives easier by sharing resources, it can only add to the overall satisfaction of being part of a project like Gordonbrock Primary”.

Gordonbrock School and Brockley School are part of the London Borough of Lewisham’s primary education development programme of which Bouygues UK is the appointed contractor.  Bouygues UK is undertaking a mixture of new build and refurbishment work at Gordonbrock over a 15 month period, with completion scheduled for March 2012.
