A Spirit of Innovation
We design innovative, comprehensive and practical solutions, that ensure our projects grow even more efficient and reliable. This is the added value in design that our clients demand.
Technical Innovation Incentive
Bouygues Travaux Publics' first Technical Innovation Day was held at Challenger on 4 October 2001. The event called 'TP Innov', brought together the main players from France and abroad including employers, engineering consultants, experts and design offices.
The event, designed and organised to encourage maximum exchange, was attended by almost 350 people including 130 clients and employees from Bouygues Travaux Publics.
Millimetre Tolerance
Renovating the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow while maintaining the flow of traffic required absolute precision. The bridge deck, weighing 52,500 tons, was lifted 1.5 centimetres and moved 3 centimetres sideways using an active control-hoisting hydraulic system developed by VSL Intrafor. It was then held in place for ten months with jacks having a tolerance of 0.1 mm.
Creative Solutions
Bouygues Construction, the only candidate to present a pilot version of its cleaning process as soon as the tender phase was launched, treated the 200,000 tons of sand polluted by the sinking of the Erika on the French Coast in December 1999. The solution: a global treatment of the components and the recycling of plastic, organic and sediment end wastes via a thermal adsorption machine.
VDI Universal Wiring
Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France recently delivered the first apartment building fitted with VDI (voice, data, image) universal wiring. This innovative concept was presented to the general-public and specialised press on the 9th of October 2002.
Innovative Financing
Bouygues UK and Ecovert FM won The best Accommodation / Property Project (>£20m) at the 2003 Public Private Finance Awards for the Home Office. Procuring project finance for the scheme required the adoption of innovative assessment and transfer in relation to residual value risk. This saw both property and project risk combined with the same senior lender, sharing the former with equity holders through a complex reserving mechanism based on periodic, independent valuations. As a result, the scheme's value for money was given a massive boost, with a saving of £100m from the unitary charge over the scheme's 29-year life span. The project's skilful absorption of significant property risk particularly pleased the judges, who rated it quite highly.
