18/06/2025

Bouygues UK, lead contractor for the first phase of the Cotswolds Designer Outlet, is proud to be delivering valuable educational engagement in Gloucestershire and on track to exceed its social value targets for the project.

In addition to the construction of the outlet for regional developer and investor Robert Hitchins Ltd, Bouygues UK has dedicated significant time and effort to fostering strong relationships with local schools, colleges, and universities, ensuring that students benefit from real-world insights and inspiring opportunities.

A series of educational initiatives have been rolled out, including site tours for Tewkesbury Academy, Norton College, and the University of Gloucestershire, alongside mock interviews, career fairs, and workshops. These activities have been designed to equip students with vital skills for their future careers, focusing on teamwork, communication, and trust.

“As a former teacher, I understand the importance of supporting schools and the vital role they play in shaping our communities. We are committed to inspiring the next generation by bridging their education with real-world applications. Through our initiatives, we aim to demonstrate the breadth of career paths available in the construction industry and foster lasting community relationships.”

As part of this educational engagement, Bouygues UK’s team and volunteers from the wider supply chain have actively contributed to making a positive impact on the community. Through joint efforts with partners, initiatives have been aimed at highlighting current and future employment opportunities, establishing the context of construction, and emphasising the relevance of education.

“Our Year 10 students had an incredible opportunity to tour the Cotswolds Designer Outlet site. Engaging directly with site managers and learning about diverse career paths within the construction industry has greatly enriched our careers programme.”

Sarah Baird from Tewkesbury Academy

“The stories shared by Bouygues UK’s team were incredibly inspiring. Our students left with a deeper understanding of construction careers and a heightened interest in exploring hands-on opportunities in the field.”

Through collaborative efforts with Skanska, Bouygues UK has further enhanced STEM engagement, promoting the construction industry and career routes. Workshops for Year 10 maths classes provided students with a practical context for their education, illustrating how subjects like mathematics weave through every aspect of construction.

“Our students were impressed by the level of professionalism displayed on site. This experience affirmed the relevance of their studies and invigorated their enthusiasm for future engagement with the industry.”

Construction for the Cotswolds Designer Outlet is making rapid progress towards a summer 2025 opening. The development is inspired by classic Cotswolds architecture, set to provide an elevated customer-focused environment and a full-day out experience at Junction 9 of the M5 in Tewkesbury.

Global brands including BOSS are confirmed to open, alongside fashion and dining favourites such as Marks & Spencer, Adidas, Wagamama, and Five Guys. With the scheme on target to achieve 98% occupancy, the Outlet promises to be a premier shopping destination.
