Bouygues UK Breaks Ground at Holy Trinity CofE Secondary School

24/09/2026

A new chapter has begun at Holy Trinity CofE Secondary School in Crawley, with Bouygues UK marking the start of construction on the school’s major redevelopment.

Representatives from The Holy Trinity Church of England Secondary School, the Diocese of Chichester, the Department for Education (DfE) and Bouygues UK came together to mark the groundbreaking, celebrating the start of the £64 million transformation.

The first stage will focus on delivering a three-storey school building to the south of the existing campus. Once complete, the school will move into the new facility, allowing the wider works to progress.

The building will provide modern facilities for teaching, learning and student life, including an assembly hall, sixth-form social and study spaces, a library resource centre and specialist teaching areas. The wider scheme will also feature five Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs), landscaped recreation space and a dedicated school car park.

As the school will remain fully operational throughout the programme, careful phasing and close collaboration between the project team and school will be essential to delivering the works safely while maintaining a functioning environment for students and staff.

We’re creating this school’s future through genuine partnership. Our construction expertise, combined with the school’s deep knowledge of student and staff needs, will create a seamless experience for everyone. We’re committed to orchestrating every phase with precision, keeping the school fully operational throughout. Together, we will deliver exceptional results built on true collaboration. That collaboration will be critical to the success of the project.

Mark Cesenek, Managing Director, Bouygues UK

This project will be completely transformational for the school and for the community. The community that sits behind us and around us is an area of deprivation. This is an opportunity to show them that they’re worth investing in and worth providing with an environment in which they can learn.

I want to thank everyone who has been involved, including the DfE, Arcadis, Bouygues UK, who is now part of it all, and everyone else who has contributed. We’re excited for the future and for our wonderful students to have the opportunity to learn in this new environment.

Chrissie Millwood, Executive Headteacher, Holy Trinity CofE Secondary School

This is not insignificant work that’s taking place, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone involved. The Church of England has championed the provision of education for all in this country, including the most disadvantaged and marginalised in our society, since the 1800s, with a focus on ensuring children and young people can access that education within their local communities.

Today, we see a clear commitment to the continuation of that important legacy. I hope that Holy Trinity School will continue to provide the best educational experience possible, rooted in the Christian faith and accessible to all, for decades to come.

Lesley Hurst, Director of Education, Diocese

The programme is scheduled for completion in late 2029. Once finished, the redevelopment will increase capacity to 1,500 students and provide modern, sustainable facilities for the school and wider Crawley community.
