Celebrating Sustainability Pioneers Across Bouygues UK
This year, we recognised colleagues who are making a real impact through our Sustainability Recognition Awards 2025. These awards highlight the individuals and teams whose initiatives are helping to advance our Climate and Environment ambitions.

This recognition celebrates individuals who made meaningful contributions across the five pillars of Bouygues UK’s sustainability framework in 2025: Carbon, Energy & Water, Biodiversity & Ecosystems, Waste & Materials, and Collaboration & Upskilling.
Driving carbon reduction through smarter site solutions
Omer Abdullahi received recognition under the Carbon pillar for leading field testing to reduce generator capacity requirements on the Hwb project. Working closely with the site team, Omer helped trial a revised approach to powering the construction hoist by combining a smaller Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) generator with a battery power pack.

Improving circularity through waste management
Under the Waste & Materials pillar, Jorge Coelho was recognised for his work leading timber segregation across the project’s logistics operations. Despite the constraints of a busy and congested site, Jorge and his team implemented consistent processes to separate wood and timber waste from other construction materials.
This initiative enabled around 180 tonnes of timber to be recycled, equating to an estimated saving of approximately 90 tonnes of CO₂ compared with sending the material to landfill. The achievement highlights how effective logistics planning and consistent site practices can support more circular construction processes.
Supporting biodiversity on site and in the community
Samantha Mayo was recognised in the Biodiversity & Ecosystems category for her work promoting nature-positive initiatives both on site and within the local community.
Sam is responsible for upholding and enforcing systems that ensure the construction site operates safely and in full compliance with environmental regulations. In addition to maintaining rigorous environmental standards throughout the construction process, Sam has championed biodiversity initiatives by repurposing surplus site materials to create bird boxes. These bird boxes will be donated to local nurseries, accompanied by informational flyers, fostering greater awareness of local wildlife and habitat conservation among children and the wider community.

Strengthening collaboration on sustainability standards
Jeffrey Tingchuy received recognition for his contribution to Higher Standards & Collaboration, supporting the coordination of sustainability requirements on the Oriel project.
As Design Coordinator, Jeffrey has played an important role in maintaining progress on the project’s BREEAM certification process. By regularly reviewing requirements, coordinating information between internal teams and consultants, and helping clarify EU taxonomy alignment, he has supported the project team in maintaining momentum and ensuring sustainability objectives remain integrated into project delivery.
Monitoring and reducing energy and water use
Alef Gubert was recognised under the Energy & Water pillar for his work improving monitoring and management of resource consumption on the Oriel project.
Through his role as Logistics Assistant Manager and Environment Champion, Alef has helped maintain accurate records of electricity and water usage across multiple meters on site. Working with the logistics team, he has supported the use of digital monitoring systems such as Smart Impulse and Smart Flow, enabling the project to track consumption, identify inefficiencies and detect leaks more quickly.
These monitoring efforts have supported the project team in taking practical steps to reduce overall energy and water use.

Together, the achievements of this year’s winners demonstrate how everyday actions can support long-term environmental improvement.
