DTEC – Creating a last impact
As we progress the construction of the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC) at West Middlesex University Hospital, we are demonstrating our commitment to creating positive social value far beyond the physical building itself. This all-electric, sustainable facility will transform diagnostic and treatment services for cancer, renal conditions, and imaging, benefiting residents across Hounslow, Richmond, and Ealing. Through carefully planned community engagement, educational initiatives, and charitable partnerships, the project is making a tangible difference in the lives of local residents and supporting the vibrant communities surrounding the hospital site.

A transformative healthcare facility
DTEC represents a significant investment in local healthcare infrastructure. The facility will double capacity for renal and cancer services, with chemotherapy chairs increasing from 10 to 18 and dialysis chairs doubling from 12 to 24, ensuring faster access to critical treatments for patients who need them most. Beyond clinical excellence, the centre will feature a state-of-the-art education and training centre designed to enhance staff skills and attract top talent to the NHS.
Supported by CW+ charity, the centre will showcase bespoke artwork that enriches the patient environment, transforming the experience of treatment and recovery and Bouygues UK is proud to play a part in this initiative.

Award-winning site
We were thrilled that DTEC won Gold at the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards. The CCS National Awards recognise projects that demonstrate exceptional care for their workforce, communities, and the environment.
The project also achieved an impressive score of 45 at its most recent CCS Assessment. CCS praised the site for its strong community involvement, environmental practices, and supportive workplace. Particularly noted was its use of innovation: solutions that deliver sustainability benefits while maintaining superior performance.

Investing in green spaces and community environments
We know that quality green spaces are vital to community wellbeing. Working closely with residents of Hepple Close, the team has replanted a communal area following necessary tree removal for hoarding installation at the start of the construction phase. In partnership with Kingston Landscape Group, we supplied shrubs to restore green coverage and soften the temporary hoarding, ensuring the local area remained visually appealing and welcoming throughout the build.
Sustainability has also been a key focus. Rather than disposing of surplus materials, we donated leftover site materials to Park Road Allotments, where local allotment holders have integrated them into their sustainable growing initiatives. Looking ahead, further landscaping improvements are planned, including shed removal at The Mulberry Centre, along with collaborative tree and shrub works with NAO Landscapes Limited.

Inspiring the next generation through education
Education and Skills are central to Bouygues UK’s social value strategy, and we are committed to developing local skills and creating employment opportunities through partnerships with MITSkills, the London Borough of Hounslow, and JCP Hounslow. Our team have actively engaged with local schools to spark interest in construction careers and develop vital skills among young people.
We’ve delivered 10 work experience placements through the MITSkills programme. To date, 113 learners have completed the MIT Bootcamps and gained a range of industry recognised certifications. On average, each candidate achieved 6 awards, significantly exceeding the initial target of 48 total certifications.
We welcomed sixteen fourth-year students from the University of Portsmouth London Campus studying Construction Project Management, for an educational site visit which featured a tailored presentation covering key industry topics including BIM, Construction Law, Project Management, Health & Safety and Sustainability. The session provided students with valuable insight into the practical and strategic considerations involved in delivering major construction projects.
Senior Lecturer Don Samuel said, “I was pleased that the students were able to connect the classroom teaching with the practical aspects of construction, resulting in an authentic learning experience.“
At Heston Community School, we supported a Year 8 careers workshop in partnership with Youth Careers Collective, where students interviewed candidates to develop decision-making and interview skills. Our team also brought construction to life at ASK Kindergarten with an interactive story session featuring PPE try-on and hands-on activities, introducing even the youngest learners to the built environment sector. We also attended Bolder Academy’s Careers Fair, engaging students from Years 7–13 about diverse career pathways in construction.
Our upcoming activities include hosting a Construction LEGO challenge with Brentford School for Girls, complete with a site visit and hands-on build activity, further bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world construction.

Supporting local charities and fundraising
We are proud to support local charities, particularly The Mulberry Centre, which provides essential services to the community. We were delighted to provide a donation towards The Mulberry Centre’s quiz night as well as their 25th Anniversary Concert. This commitment continues to grow, with our team set to take part in the “Play on the Pitch” charity match at Brentford G-TECH Community Stadium.
The British Heart Foundation is another vital charity partner supported across all our Healthcare projects. We’re committed to raising funds for their life-saving work and will be putting our support into action during the London to Brighton bike ride in June.
Looking forward
The Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre project showcases how major construction initiatives can be designed to benefit communities from day one. By integrating environmental improvements, educational outreach, skills development, and charitable support into project delivery, Bouygues UK is building far more than a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, it is investing in the social fabric of West London.
This all-electric, sustainable facility will serve as a beacon for responsible development, demonstrating that excellence in construction extends far beyond the finished building. As the project progresses toward completion, these social value initiatives will continue to create lasting positive impacts, benefiting patients, staff, students, and communities for generations to come.
